Student Praise
Below I have compiled three student feedback comments for each year since 2011 from the Final Assessment of my online course Organizational Conflict Resolution and Negotiation (COMM4410) as a sampling of student perceptions regarding my teaching, helpfulness, and student interaction.
2014
“I felt that our professor Melynda
Connor did a very good job in communicating with us. She is the first professor that I have had that
enjoyed being active with the students. The old saying goes "If you love
your job then you will never work a day in your life". I feel that's very
true. It was nice to have someone display their enjoyment and passion for
teaching. I feel that it helped me learn better and also absorb more material”
(K. Finch, July 28, 2014).
“Melynda Conner is a great teacher
that boosted your confidence with every paper that was graded. She described
your problems in your papers without making you feel like you were a failure,
which made me want to work harder on the next paper” (D. Panzone, July 26, 2014).
“Thank you for a wonderful semester.
This has honestly been one of my favorite courses to participate in. You did an
excellent job as an online instructor. I know that it is probably difficult to
keep students engaged and interested in online courses, but you really kept me
involved in the course. You bridged the communication gap that is often found
in online courses. Thank you!” (S. Niswander, May 5, 2014).
2013
“At
40 years of age, this has been the life changing class for me. You, Melynda
Conner, are my life changing teacher. This class and the way you have
orchestrated its message has touched me and, thus, everyone connected to me –
thank you. I have enjoyed this class and consider it a privilege to have
participated in it. You have inspired me and I will always remember you – and
I’m following you on Pinterest now ;-) Thank you Melynda for guiding this class
in such a way that has changed the path of my life – I appreciate you!” (J.
Sanders, Spring 2013).
“Additionally, there is nothing that
I can suggest to improve the learning experience for future students as long
the instructor is equal in caliber to Professor Melynda Conner” (C. George, Spring 2013).
“Most
of all, Mrs. Conner understood first hand what it like for most students
attending college in today. It is very difficult to attend college as an adult
learner, but she makes the class as flexible as possible. She goes out of her
way to help students who do not understand the content and requirements. She is
also the only teacher I have ever had to give out her cell phone number and to
say ‘text me anytime’” (S. Roberson, December 4, 2013).
2012
“Thank you, Ms.
Conner for providing me with such informative, educating, and fun coursework, I
have gained the knowledge and skills that I need in order to successfully
resolve conflict. I can’t wait to teach my daughter the same skills that you
have taught me through this course” (J. Rimas, Fall 2012).
“I must also send a heart-felt thank you to you,
Melynda Conner. I have found you to be an excellent professor in the
organization of the materials and your availability of assistance to your students”
(R. Long, Fall 2012).
“Professor Conner, I thought you did a tremendous
job at providing us with such valuable, and enjoyable, readings and
information. I greatly appreciate the valuable feedback you gave me on my
assignments. I have experienced all too often professors that obviously do not
read the assignments I submit but almost seem to simply give me full credit for
even submitting the assignment. How am I expected to learn anything or even
push myself if I know that my work isn’t even being read and graded by my
professor? Thank you for such a wonderful semester!” (A. Dewerff,
April 25, 2012).
2011
“First of all let me say Prof. Connor that I have
thourougly enjoyed taking your class.
You have been one of the most influential, motivational and knowlegeable
Professors I’ve ever had. I feel your grading was fair and informative. Whatever the score, you always gave positive
feedback and did not make the students
feel stupid or ignorant when we made mistakes” (A. Webb,
December 6, 2011).
“Prof. Connor, from my online experience with you,
you are a wonderful, knowledgeable and caring educator. I would have loved to experience this course
sitting at the front desk in your classroom” (E. R. Balfour, Fall 2011).
“I have never experienced an instructor’s
willingness to help, and with patience, before I started this semester” (M.
Clemons, Fall 2011).
