January's Survey for Online Adjunct Faculty
"Information is the currency of democracy."--Ralph Nader
A national survey concerning faculty development for online
teaching caught my eye recently. Conducted by Katrina Meyer and Vicki Murrell
who hail from my undergraduate alma mater, The University of Memphis, the
2014 survey was developed with a focus on the Online
Learning (formerly Sloan) Consortium’s emphasis on faculty satisfaction
with institutional support in mind. The research revealed a great deal about the state of self-reported faculty development efforts for online teaching. The side exploration of theories used by the various faculty development departments in constructing their offerings was quite interesting, as well. However, what
struck me most was that the survey was conducted from the perspective of the
institutions rather than from that of the faculty. So, I thought I would do a
survey of my own to gain some sense of instructors’ perspectives.
If you teach online or blended learning courses for a college or university, please take the time to complete January's Survey about online higher ed faculty development. It is only 10 questions long and should take approximately 3 minutes to complete.
The results will be published Friday, February 6th, in the Weekly Wrap-Up. Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Join me Monday for the first Make-It Monday where I will provide tips and tools for creating your own teaching philosophy, a helpful addition to any educator's resume packet.
See you then,
Melynda
